Steak!!!!!!!!!

Good morning, world! Today is a marvelous day! The sun is shining, the birds are singing, the garden is kind of growing, and I got a wonderful eight hours of sleep. :) It's a marvelous day!

Speaking of marvelous, the hubs and I had a beautiful steak the other day. See!

Yes, yes, I know that is a half eaten steak, but I wanted you to see how perfectly done it was! I know not everyone likes their steak medium rare like we do, but you've got to admit, that looks pretty tasty.

This steak was our one splurge last week. Our local butcher has a deal that's 42 lbs of assorted meat for $159. I think we ended up coming home with 40 lbs because we swapped the pork chops out for the steak. Still, it ended up being a really good deal, and now my freezer makes me happy. See!

One drawer of coffee beans (don't tell my old boss! She'd yell at me for freezing my coffee!), two shelves strategically packed with steak and stew and chicken and bacon and hamburger and all kinds of meat, and one shelf of ice packs. We have a ton of them, seriously. Oh, and one tub of peanut butter cookie dough that was leftover from a dessert that I made. Not much makes me happier than a stocked refrigerator and freezer. I admit it. I'm a foodie.

Okay, so here's the recipe for the day. How to cook the perfect (in my opinion) steak:

1) Take a cast iron skillet and put it on the stove on high for 10-15 minutes. You want to make sure that it is searing hot. Don't grease it at all.

2) Throw steak on the skillet, cook 3 minutes, flip, cook 3 minutes.

3) Eat.

Seriously, it's that easy. It was pretty cool. When we tossed the steaks in the pan, the salt glowed. So awesome. If you like your steak a bit more done that we do, just cook it a bit longer on each side. If you like it a bit less done than we do, cook it less on each side. It's easy.

We like a good rub on our steaks, too, so we make our own. Here's what we did this time:

Salt
Pepper
Paprika
Turmeric
Garlic Salt

We didn't measure anything, but you just want to make sure that you make enough to cover the steak.

That's it for now. If you have something that you love to have on your steak, I'd love some comments!

  1. Sounds Good. We would have to cook it a little longer for our taste. We will have to give this a try.
